In Washington State, massage therapists serve patients/clients from various backgrounds including various socioeconomic statuses, race and ethnicities, gender and sexual identities, etc. This class is an introduction to health equity broadly, racism in medicine, implicit bias, and will provide tangible ways you can tie what you have learned into your work as a massage therapist. This class satisfies the health equity requirements for Washington State (2 credits) and meets all objectives as required by Department of Health including: 


  • Implicit bias training to identify strategies to reduce bias during assessment and diagnosis, and may include, but is not limited to at least one of the topics included in RCW 43.70.613 such as training in bias, racism, and poverty, that manifest as health inequities.
